The breeze is getting colder here, especially when it rains. And I realize these days I wake up looking forward to a sunny day. My day usually starts with a toast and a hot drink or apple juice. I’ve been incorporating chia seed into my diet recently and I’m getting used to having them. It’s never too late to start something healthy, even if it’s as simple as stretching daily.
Cold weather is the season of cozy blankets and fuzzy socks. Just like the weather, we get cold sometimes. Life could be bland, dull and makes you question you decisions at times. But always remember, life is like a rotating wheel, and it does not stop moving. It is not a straight line, and certainly not consistent. Setbacks and challenges, doubts and fear. They’re part of life. Just like success and joy.
Whenever I feel gloomy or somber, I always find myself reaching for these things. I call them my comfort things; food and items to cure my troubled mind, and sometimes my troubled heart. Most of the times I didn’t even know I was reaching for them! Turns out they’ve been comforting me for the longest time.
Chocolate Drink
Yes. A good sip of milky hot chocolate drink cures everything. I remember my first heartbreak, I made chocolate drink almost everyday and gained some pounds. I was going crazy for chocolate. But I learnt self control and stopped, probably because I got busy with studies and started noticing those extra pounds showing.
My mom
My mother is my go to person whenever I feel bothered and missing home. I text my mom almost everyday but I try to call her every other night just to ask how things are and home updates. If there’s one advice I could give to a sad person, call your mother. But remember, call her during happy times too! Because mother’s prayers work like magic.
Chicken Soup
Easy, delicious and healthy. Chicken soup is the perfect menu when you’re feeling down, sick or even when you’re lazy. Growing up, my mom made delicious chicken soup and my grandmother makes the best chicken feet soup. Chicken soup takes me home wherever I go in the world.
Photograph/Video
I LOVEE taking photographs and videos. It’s my way of capturing moments in my life. I tried writing a diary and a bullet journal, but it’s gotten abandoned in the end. Photos and videos are happy moments, and easier to capture. Like when I went to this huge field of sunflower or when I celebrated Eid back home. It’s those little precious moments you wish you could freeze, faces you want to remember forever. Because the mind is tricky and it forget things. I uploaded my recent autumn adventure where I went hiking and watch the beautiful scenery of maple tree with my husband. You can watch it HERE. Don’t forget to subscribe and show some luvvv (shameless promo)
Songs
Last but not least. Songs. Fastest way to cure anything (temporarily). Blast some good ol’ music and shake the blues away! Spotify has tons of playlist ready.

I could relate each point to one another, where they have been the constants in my life. Through changes, heartbreaks, success, failure. These things never change and they sort of connects me to my past self, a way of remembering where I came from and what I have been through.
However, the most important thing stands above these things. God. There were days where I felt like not listening to any song, too somber to cook up chicken soup and too lazy to get up and pour that chocolate drink. To have firm believe is crucial during big changes. It is knowing you have something to hold on when things seem impossible and indefinite.
What are your comfort things?
